Goswami replaces BJ Moore, who recently left Providence after five years in the CIO role

Renton, Wash.-based Providence, which serves seven Western states with 51 hospitals, has hired Cherodeep (Chero) Goswami as chief information and digital officer.

Goswami currently serves as a system vice president and chief information and digital officer for the University of Wisconsin Health System (UW Health). He replaces BJ Moore, who recently left Providence after five years in the CIO role.

As Healthcare Innovation reported in February, under new President and CEO Erik Wexler, Providence has announced a series of leadership changes, including a new physician leader for the Providence Clinical Network and changing Sara Vaezy’s title from chief digital officer to chief transformation officer.

Moore summarized his experience at Providence in a post on LinkedIn: “So proud of the work we jointly accomplished in IT and Real Estate Strategy and Operations. While navigating COVID, transforming from legacy systems and architecture, to a single ERP in Oracle Fusion Cloud, a single EMR with Epic, moved our data centers and applications to the Microsoft Azure Cloud, modernized our network, moved our data from isolated on prem databases to the cloud and the largest healthcare instance of Snowflake, matured our Cyber capabilities, the incredible capabilities we built with Providence India, at the forefront of AI and the digital transformation of healthcare, selling off underperforming real estate assets, while investing in the future with building of two new hospitals, the list goes on and on.”

Prior to his role at UW Health, Goswami worked at BJC Healthcare in St. Louis, where he served in a variety of leadership roles, including vice president for business relationship management. He has also worked in other industries, including finance, telecom and transportation.

Goswami will be responsible for IT  strategy and operations, including cybersecurity, deployment of artificial intelligence, and internally focused areas of the digital platform. He’ll also help lead and advance strategic priorities, including easing the administrative burden for physicians and clinicians.

“The chief information and digital officer role is critical for helping Providence support our transformation efforts, drive technological advancements and investments, safeguard sensitive health information, and ultimately improve patient outcomes,” said Wexler in a statement.
