April 2, 2025
Nonprofit company created by Kaiser adds Jessica Bartell, M.D., M.S., M.B.A., as CMIO and Deepak Sadagopan as business lead, value-based platform

Risant Health, a nonprofit organization created by Kaiser Foundation Hospitals in 2023 and dedicated to increasing access to value-based care, has filled out its leadership ranks, naming Jessica Bartell, M.D., M.S., M.B.A., its chief medical information officer. Also Deepak Sadagopan has joined Risant as business lead, value-based platform.

KP Medical Foundation physician Chris Cable, M.D., and Washington Permanente Medical Group physician Marc Mora, M.D., have been named clinical leads for the value-based platform. They and Sadagopan will work closely with Risant Health’s IT business partners, bringing together the business, clinical and technology knowledge to build comprehensive solutions for the value-based platform.

Sadagopan joins Risant Health from Providence, a nonprofit health system serving the Western U.S., where he led care transformation initiatives as chief operating officer, population health. Sadagopan has more than two decades of experience spanning technology, health care services and economics, having served in leadership roles at Siemens, Quest Diagnostics, McKesson and Edifecs. He has expertise in improving the performance of value-based care arrangements, developing effective clinically integrated networks, and strategically deploying artificial intelligence tools. In August 2024, he spoke with Healthcare Innovation about “learning to think like a payer.”

Bartell joins Risant Health from UnitedHealthcare, where she served as senior vice president and chief medical officer over the areas of population health, value-based care and clinical policy. Previously, she served as chief medical officer and vice president, business development and strategy, and clinical decision support at EBSCO Health in Massachusetts. Her experience also includes more than two decades as a primary care provider, specializing in women’s health across academic, community and safety net settings.

“Dr. Bartell brings deep expertise in clinical transformation and enablement of population health and value-based care, and she has demonstrated success working at the intersection of financial incentives, analytics, technology and clinical programs,” said Risant Health CEO Jaewon Ryu, M.D., J.D., in a statement. “One of the ways Dr. Bartell will bring her experience to bear at Risant Health is through the effective implementation of the clinical informatics that drive our value-based platform’s powerful set of technology, services and capabilities to improve clinical performance and patient outcomes.”

In December 2024, Risant announced that it had received regulatory approvals and had completed its transaction with North Carolina-based Cone Health, the second nonprofit health system to become part of Risant Health. Pennsylvania Geisinger became a part of Risant Health in March 2024.

Washington, D.C.-based Risant Health was created by Kaiser Foundation Hospitals to bring together like-minded organizations, increase access to value-based care and coverage, and raise the bar for approaches that bring the best health outcomes. Risant Health's goal is to expand and accelerate the adoption of value-based care in multi-payer, multi-provider, community-based health system environments.
