Geisinger, the Danville, Pa.-based health system, has become the latest member of the AVIA Innovator Network, a network of health systems working together to innovate and transform.
AVIA will connects Geisinger with more than 30 health systems across the nation that are leveraging the network to help them identify, implement, and scale digital solutions to support their strategic objectives. Some prominent health systems that are already part of the AVIA network include Providence St. Joseph Health, Piedmont Healthcare, Rush, and Dignity Health, just to name a few.
“At Geisinger, we’re constantly seeking new ways to improve care for our patients, our members, and our communities,” Karen Murphy, M.D., executive vice president, chief innovation officer, and founding director of the Steele Institute for Healthcare Innovation. “In AVIA, we’ve found a partner to help us operationalize and accelerate our innovation efforts.”
Geisinger’s initial work with AVIA will focus on innovative solutions to address value-based care and community health needs. Up first is the Medicaid Transformation Project, a collaborative effort with peer health systems to find financially-sustainable solutions that deliver high-quality care for Medicaid and other vulnerable populations. “Improving the health and care of our Medicaid population is one of our most complex community challenges,” said Murphy. “We’re excited and eager to work with AVIA and peers who also want to prioritize and accelerate solutions for vulnerable populations.”
Geisinger has previously launched community health innovation initiatives, including Springboard Healthy Scranton, a program designed to improve an entire community’s health. The program develops, tests, and implements projects to coordinate community resources, eliminate hunger, prevent chronic diseases, and unleash the power of genomic medicine. The program will share lessons learned and proven solutions both nationally and globally, according to Geisinger officials.
“We are thrilled to welcome Geisinger, a national innovator in healthcare delivery, to the AVIA Network,” noted Eric Langshur, CEO and Co-founder. “They are doing landmark work in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and AVIA will be a connector to peers across the nation that share their passion to solve complex care challenges with innovation.
