Cerner Corp., the Kansas City, Mo.-based electronic health record (EHR) vendor, has named Zane Burke, an executive in the company, its new president.
Burke came to Cerner in 1996 from the consultant KPMG, and has made contributions to Cerner's growth and in building strategic relationships with many of the largest health systems in the world, according to the company. Burke has held a number of positions in the company, including president of Cerner west from 2003 to 2011, and, more recently, executive vice president of Cerner's client organization. Burke holds an MBA and Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Kansas State University.
Burke will report to Cerner co-founder, chairman, and CEO Neal Patterson, whom he assumes the title from.
Cerner is not alone in the health IT landscape when it comes to leadership change. Recently, the Chicago-based Merge Healthcare announced that its chairman, Michael W. Ferro, Jr., resigned, just two weeks following the resignation of Jeffery Surges, the company’s CEO.
