A new nonprofit organization, Health Hub, has been set up to help UC San Francisco inventors and entrepreneurs from the local community access the support and professional development they need to develop successful companies.

UCSF is seeking to translate its scientific ideas and advances in healthcare into deliverable breakthroughs that will promote the health of the community and the advancement of science generally.

Health Hub will have a roster of experienced tech entrepreneurs, investors and advisors that UCSF faculty, researchers and students can access directly. Although Health Hub will prioritize UCSF-affiliated teams for admittance and participation in its programs, it will also accommodate outside teams, based upon a rigorous selection process.

In a statement on UCSF’s website, Harold “Barry” Selick, vice chancellor for business development, innovation and partnerships at UCSF, described how it will work: “Health Hub includes a mechanism, called Health Hub Connect, through which UCSF faculty and students can connect with business resources and expertise, while also linking mentors, advisors, and potential partners and investors in all forms of digital health with our faculty and students.”

Health Hub and UCSF will also provide a regular schedule of educational activities, including seminars, presentations, workshops, and gatherings to support education and scientific research in connection with digital health innovation and entrepreneurship.
