On the heels of its annual industry-wide gathering, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has announced it will take control of the mHealth (mobile health) Summit, which was previously run by the Foundation for National Institutes of Health (FNIH).
Next year’s event will run Dec. 3-5 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Washington D.C. The theme for the fourth annual summit will be "Connecting the Mobile Health Ecosystem." HIMSS is promising the 2012 mHealth Summit will have an expanded exhibit floor to accommodate the anticipated increase in exhibitors and themed pavilions.
HIMSS says FNIH will remain actively involved in the event as an organizing partner along with the mHealth Alliance. The acquisition of the mHealth Summit will aim to augment HIMSS current activities in the mobile healthcare space. These include an association, a community and a website (mHIMSS.org).
"In an increasingly mobile environment, the mHealth Summit helps HIMSS fulfill our vision to lead healthcare transformation not only through the best use of health information and management technology in a fixed environment -- but now, as mobile health devices, sensors and apps are increasingly deployed and linked throughout the healthcare delivery system," said H. Stephen Lieber, HIMSS president and CEO, said in a statement.
