The American College of Cardiology (ACC) is developing a mobile clinician decision support (CDS) app that will give doctors access to ACC guideline content and related tools.

The app includes three of the most recently updated guidelines including management of heart failure, assessment of cardiovascular risk, and treatment of blood cholesterol.  ACC says it is more than just a reposting of those guidelines though, with interactive tools such as a dosing calculator included. It will also have scoring tools and algorithms that will be useful to clinicians implementing the guidelines.

“The app is designed to provide easy access to guideline content for all clinicians caring for patients with cardiovascular disease,” stated ACC Heart Information and Technology Committee Member John J. Ryan, M.D., “It gives clinicians the opportunity to bookmark information they use the most, to add their own notes and to email information from a mobile device. “

ACC is making it available for free on iTunes and GooglePlay and says additional guidelines and features will be added over time. Treatment of valvular heart disease and atrial fibrillation guidelines will be added in December.
