Ranger Health, a San Antonio-based, on-demand healthcare service and technology company, has raised $10 million in a Series A round of investment funding.

Ranger Health allows customers to use a mobile app to order face-to-face healthcare visits for minor injuries and illnesses from licensed physician assistants and nurse practitioners when and where it’s most convenient to the customer. The company will use the proceeds to further develop its technology platform and to expand into additional markets throughout Texas and the Southwest.

“Consumers enthusiastically embraced the initial offering, Ranger On Call, as an innovative and expedient way to obtain healthcare, which drove its rapid adoption in the Alamo City and surrounding communities,” said Michael Zucker, Ranger Health’s CEO, in a prepared statement. “Our technology platform will enable the company to scale and extend the reach of our on-demand services.”

Ranger Health was founded in 2015 by Zucker and a group of entrepreneurs who previously co-founded AirStrip, WellAware, Splice and other software companies. Previously, Zucker was the chief strategy officer of Tenet Healthcare’s South Texas region, where he led clinical integration efforts to develop commercial and Medicare accountable care organizations.

Ranger Health said that the growth of high-deductible health plans and increased out-of-pocket costs are driving consumers to seek new models of care.

The company also said its corporate clients in the region have signed up because it allows employees to seek care without taking time off to go to a doctor’s appointment or wait in a more expensive care setting.
