The Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger has become the first healthcare system in Pennsylvania and the fourth in the world to earn HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 Adoption Model for Analytics Maturity (AMAM) validation, the health system recently announced.
This award recognizes integrated application of information systems and analytics to improve clinical, operational, research and financial processes for healthcare. The Adoption Model for Analytics Maturity (AMAM) progressively measures an organization’s analytical capabilities across eight stages of maturity (Stage 0 – Stage 7).
In February, North Carolina-based Duke Health became the first U.S. healthcare institution to be awarded the highest honor for analytic capabilities by HIMSS Analytics.
University of North Carolina Health also has received AMAM Stage 7; Geisinger joins Rush Health in Chicago and King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Saudi Arabia as the next Stage 6 achievers. In Pennsylvania, Geisinger has achieved AMAM Stage 6, emphasizing a strong foundation of data content, infrastructure, data governance and analytics competency, according to officials.
"Geisinger is proud to join a handful of healthcare organizations in the world to reach this level of analytics maturity. We strive to provide our patients with the best possible outcomes through innovative technologies and progressive use of data-driven decisions," Geisinger CIO John Kravitz said in a statement. "Geisinger’s clinically integrated environment ensures data flows seamlessly from one department to another, prioritizing patient care,” he added.
What’s more, the recognition complements Geisinger’s recent validation as a clinical inpatient Stage 7 health system, as tracked by the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). The health system validated at Stage 7 for the outpatient adoption model as well. In contrast to AMAM validations, over 350 organizations have achieved EMRAM Stage 7.
"The future of healthcare delivery is in data analytics and personalized medicine, so we are honored to be recognized by HIMSS Analytics for this achievement," Mark Poler, M.D., a physician informaticist participating in the HIMSS AMAM validation process. “This continued recognition shows Geisinger is building upon a foundation of improved care quality, safety and efficiency.”
