Previously, Becerra highlighted the need for staffing improvements for long-term care and skilled nursing facilities

The Western Governors’ Association (WGA) will hold its 2024 Winter Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada, from December 9 to 10. WGA chair New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham will be joined by her fellow Western Governors for discussions on topics relevant to the Western states.

U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Xavier Becerra is confirmed to deliver the keynote address for the gathering. He is expected to highlight the Department’s priorities to improve healthcare access across the United States.

The WGA noted that during a previous meeting this past summer, Becerra underscored the growing dangers of avian flu and discussed with the Governors the need to better staff long-term care and skilled nursing facilities and improve compensation for home healthcare providers.
