In 2024, Healthcare Innovation wrote about how Texas-based Memorial Hermann Health System was expanding its relationship with Reimagine Care, which offers patients access to a team of clinical oncology specialists via text, phone and video to address symptom concerns and side effects of therapy. Now Reimagine Care has been acquired by Paris-based Cureety, a precision oncology company, for an undisclosed sum. 

Cureety and Nashville-based Reimagine Care said they form a profitable organization that supports more than 250 cancer centers and 100,000 patients across five countries, with a combined team of approximately 150 people. They said the acquisition brings together Cureety’s therapy-specific monitoring and clinical intelligence with Reimagine Care’s AI-supported patient engagement and oncology-specialized care teams to support more personalized, continuous care beyond the clinic.

“Cancer is a global challenge, and advances in treatment are creating many of the same opportunities and pressures for oncology teams regardless of where they practice,” said François-Guirec Champoiseau, CEO and co-founder of Cureety, in a statement. “Cancer treatment has become extraordinarily precise, and we have an opportunity to bring that same level of precision to the care surrounding it. Together, we can understand what therapy a patient is receiving, what risks matter for that individual and how they are doing day to day, helping care teams focus their time and expertise on the patients and moments that need them most.”

In a statement, Dan Nardi, CEO of Reimagine Care, said together the two companies “can give U.S. oncology organizations a way to expand access to advanced treatments, increase clinical capacity and stay continuously connected to patients without simply asking already stretched teams to do more.”

The companies also see an opportunity to support drug development and research by using the platform in clinical trials and observational studies to provide precision care, safety support and qualitative longitudinal data through continuous, therapy-specific monitoring.

In our 2024 interview, Sandy Miller, R.N., vice president of the oncology service line at Memorial Hermann, gave this example of how her health system uses Reimagine Care’s services: “A 27-year-old woman with a serious sarcoma, undergoing very aggressive therapy. Young person, lots of stress, lots of concerns, lots of worries, both physically, mentally, emotionally and financially. The patient herself wanted to avoid hospitalization, if at all possible, to ensure her financial health could remain strong. The nurses from Reimagine Care monitored her at home hourly, provided her guidance and education about how to utilize her prescribed medicine, continue to assess her, to see that she was remaining stable and/or whether or not she would need to, in fact, go to a hospital or emergency room. The woman was supported over a period of about three days with all of the care that she needed via telehealth and telephone, and was able to be supported through that care journey when she really wasn't feeling well and was experiencing significant side effects from her treatment, and so she was ecstatic at still feeling safe and secure and supported and getting great care while she was in her home.”
