Health information technology vendor Allscripts Healthcare announced two separate initiatives this week to integrate a genomic solution and predictive analytics technologies with its electronic health record (EHR) systems.

The company announced a partnership with Hospital IQ to make its predictive analytics platform available through the Allscripts Sunrise and Allscripts EPSi electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Hospital IQ’s cloud-based predictive analytics platform helps hospitals optimize efficiency through data-driven performance improvement, according to an Allscripts press release. The software leverages operations research and data science including real-time predictions, “what-if” scenario simulations and automated business intelligence for systematic efficiency optimization. The platform enables hospitals to align resources—such as staff, operating rooms and inpatient beds—with actual and predicted patient flow.

“Hospitals are under immense financial and logistical pressure. By integrating Hospital IQ’s solutions, our clients can leverage their investments in other technology platforms to improve operational efficiency and thrive in this environment,” Allscripts president Rick Poulton said in a prepared statement. “EPSi customers will have unparalleled capability to achieve enterprise-level financial objectives by integrating dynamic operational planning tools into the strategic budgeting process.”

The company also announced that its subsidiary, 2bPrecise, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) plan to launch a cloud-based genomics and precision medicine solution that will enable the results of genomic sequencing tests at the point of care through the EHR.

According to an Allscripts Healthcare press release, the 2bPrecise solution is EHR-agnostic, yet NIH is a longtime Allscripts Sunrise EHR client, and the solution, designed by 2bPrecise, will enable NIH physicians and researchers to use genomic information in their current Allscripts solution workflow. This will help simplify and optimize the complex process of finding, selecting, ordering and receiving genomic tests, according to Allscripts. “Using the 2bPrecise genomics and precision medicine solution, results of genomic sequencing tests will be made available and actionable at the point of care through Allscripts Sunrise EHR,” the company stated.

Genomic medicine experts from NIH will be the early adopters and include physicians and researchers at the National Human Genome Research Institute, the National Cancer Institute and the NIH Clinical Center.

“We are honored and excited to work with NIH, one of the most innovative research institutions in the world, on this dimensional change of health care. 2bPrecise will soon be able to take a big step toward bringing an easy-to-use, clinical-genomic solution into the mainstream,” 2bPrecise general manager Assaf Halevy said in a statement. Allscripts Healthcare plans to make the solution available to other providers, integrated delivery networks or payer organizations.

In addition to improving the workflow experience for physicians and nurses, the 2bPrecise solution uses advanced methods in clinical-genomic ontology and data harmonization and will return merged, semantically harmonized knowledge in a machine-readable and structured format, the company said. Medical researchers can combine genomic data with clinical and environmental information in a manner that enables statistical analysis and pattern detection.
