Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), the Englewood, Colo.-based faith-based health system, has announced it is using a Premier healthcare alliance app on the PremierConnect integrated performance platform connecting 42 of its hospitals with clinical data. The initiative is an effort to integrate and compare patient-level quality, safety, and financial outcomes data with 800 other providers across the U.S. to reduce hospital-acquired conditions, mortality, readmissions and costs.

“QualityAdvisor provides our hospitals with valuable information to make data-driven, evidence-based decisions that improve the quality and safety of patient care,” Stephen L. Moore, MD, senior vice president and chief medical officer at CHI, said in a statement. “Connecting our hospitals to this application supports our ministry’s mission to improve the health of the communities we serve.”

Premier, a provider-owned improvement alliance of 2,600 hospitals and 86,000 other care sites including 400,000 physicians, maintains a database, which contains information from 1 in every 4 U.S. hospital discharges, 2.5 million real-time clinical transactions daily and nearly $43 billion in annual purchasing data.

Keith J. Figlioli, senior vice president of healthcare informatics at Premier, said in a statement: “Integrating facility-level data with clinically proven methods and data from hospitals across the country helps providers deliver care more efficiently and effectively. As a growing and diversifying healthcare leader, CHI is taking the needed steps to further center care around the people they serve and create an environment of best practices.”
