The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) recently announced a new initiative aimed at increasing efficiencies and reducing the time and costs associated with ICD-10 compliance. The effort will bring together state collaborative organizations and their members, the Reston, Va.-based non-profit organization, said in a release.

“This is an exciting opportunity for WEDI to help state organizations discover additional methods to save time and money throughout the transition to ICD-10,” stated Laura Darst, revenue cycle regulatory advisor, Mayo Clinic and WEDI Board Member. “The new initiative provides tremendous value to state collaborative organizations nationwide.”

According to WEDI, the group will aim to facilitate interstate communications on ICD-10 implementation. State leaders, the group says, will be able to share best practices, collaborate in end-to-end testing, and work together to reduce the risk and effort required to implement the ICD-10 standard.

A new sub-workgroup will be formed next month. The initial participants are California ICD -10 Collaborative, Massachusetts Health Data Consortium, Minnesota ICD-10 Collaborative, NCHICA, and Wisconsin ICD-10 Collaborative.

“WEDI’s Collaborative Initiative will deliver greater efficiencies and best practice development for multi-stakeholders,” Catherine Mesnik, finance director at St. Joseph Health System and WEDI Board Member, said in a statement. “Partnering with other state collaboratives will strengthen communication amongst payers, providers and vendors, and align ICD-10 implementation efforts.”
