HIMSS Analytics, the research arm of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, has announced that The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus has received its Stage 7 recognition for four hospitals. This includes The Ohio State University Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital; The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute; The Ohio State University Hospital; and The Ohio State University Hospital East.

The Stage 7 award represents attainment of the highest level on the Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM), which is used to track EMR progress at hospitals and health systems.

“We are very excited to receive the Stage 7 Award. We believe this designation is important beyond the award itself, because the criteria are structured to represent the advanced use of technology to improve patient care and working toward this award has helped us realize our mission of improving people's lives,” Phyllis Teater, CIO and vice president of health services at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, said in a statement.

The hospitals will be recognized at the 2013 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition in New Orleans on March 3-7, 2013. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is one of only 86 U.S. facilities, or 1.2 percent, of the more than 5,000 U.S. hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database, to be awarded the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Award.

"This award is a tribute to the hard work of every member of our team," Steven G. Gabbe, M.D., CEO of Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center, said in a statement. "Our electronic system will allow us to provide more efficient, effective and better coordinated care to our patients. Patient records are in a central, secure location where health providers can access to their patients' current health information.
