HIMSS Analytics has awarded four Mercy Health of Cincinnati hospitals with Stage 7 Awards, and all of its associated ambulatory clinics, located throughout Ohio and Kentucky, with Stage 7 Ambulatory Awards.

The Stage 7 hospitals are Mercy Health—West Hospital and The Jewish Hospital—Mercy Health in Cincinnati, Mercy Memorial Hospital in Urbana, and Mercy Defiance Hospital. “A lot of great teamwork helped us achieve this important milestone. We have a dedicated, talented group of individuals who put a lot of energy into this effort. Credit goes to each and every one of them,” Rebecca Sykes, senior vice president, resource management and CIO, Mercy Health, said in a statement.

HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database. There are eight stages (0-7) that measure a hospital’s implementation and utilization of information technology applications. The final stage, Stage 7, represents an advanced patient record environment.

Developed in 2011, the EMR Ambulatory Adoption Model provides a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of EMR systems for ambulatory facilities owned by hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database. These facilities include physician practices, clinics, outpatient centers and specialty clinics.

During the second quarter of 2014, only 3.2 percent of the more than 5,400 U.S. hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database received the Stage 7 Award, and only 4.30 percent of the more than 26,000 ambulatory clinics in the database received the Stage 7 Ambulatory Award .

Mercy Health (formerly Catholic Health Partners) is the largest health system in Ohio and one of the largest health systems in the U.S., employing more than 32,000 employees in Ohio and Kentucky. Mercy Health operates more than 250 health facilities, including 23 hospitals, eight senior living communities, five hospice programs and seven home health agencies.

“Mercy Health has shown an excellent deployment of their acute and ambulatory care EHR.  Mercy showed excellence in establishing the ‘Mercy way’ with common order sets, a common medication formulary, etc. across their deployed acute care locations in Ohio and Kentucky, as well as for their 1,300 physicians in over 200 locations,” John P. Hoyt, executive vice president, HIMSS Analytics, said. “They showed million in savings through their common approach.  This positions Mercy to be a very strong force in the at-risk market in the Ohio and Kentucky region. Mercy’s investment in the enterprise wide EHR has positioned them to launch into contracting arrangements that would not be available to them in a paper based world.”

Mercy Health will be recognized at the 2015 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition on April 12-16, 2015, in Chicago, Ill.
