St. Catherine Hospital Becomes First Kansas Hospital to Reach HIMSS Stage 7
Garden City, Kan.-based St. Catherine Hospital, part of Centura Health, has reached Stage 7 on the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM), the first hospital in Kansas to receive that level of certification.
According to HIMSS Analytics, Stage 7 hospitals are considered to be completely paperless and represent best practices in implementing electronic medical records (EMR). HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals. Ambulatory sties track their progress in completing the eight stages (0 - 7), with the goal of reaching Stage 7: an environment where paper charts are no longer used.
St. Catherine Hospital is the 15th Centura Health hospital to reach HIMSS Stage 7.

According to Centura health, in order to reach this certification, St. Catherine Hospital presented data to demonstrate its use of a completely electronic method of patient record management and ability to share patient health and wellness information electronically. Immediately after going live on MEDITECH, the Centura Health EHR platform, in November 2014, St. Catherine Hospital achieved the 90 percent Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) target and 95 percent Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) target required by HIMSS in order to be HIMSS Stage 7 certified.
