The American College of Cardiology (ACC), Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System and xG Health Solutions have launched a joint initiative with the aim of enhancing the processes and outcomes of clinical care for patients with heart failure.

As part of this partnership, ACC, Geisinger and xG Health will develop a new heart failure software app that combines ACC’s clinical practice guidelines, Geisinger’s ProvenCare methodology and xG Health Software. The software application will provide clinicians with easy access to clinical practice guidelines and information on other best practices related to the management of congestive heart failure.

"We are very enthusiastic about this partnership with the American College of Cardiology. It builds on our ProvenCare methodologies in ensuring we provide high-quality care to every patient, every time through evidenced-based protocols," David Feinberg, M.D.,  president and chief executive officer of Geisinger Health System, said in a statement.

"The American College of Cardiology develops clinical guidelines to synthesize the best available scientific evidence to help the cardiovascular team provide the best care for their patients," ACC executive vice president science, education, and quality William Oetgen, M.D, said. "This project is another step in our efforts to develop technology to help clinicians access information when they need it to improve care.”

Oetgen said the app will interact with the National Cardiovascular Data Registry to provide actionable feedback to clinicians.

The application is the latest in a suite of clinical software apps being developed by xG Health, a company launched by Geisinger in 2013 to bring Geisinger innovations to a broader market.
