Through its participation in the eHealth Exchange, a federal level health information exchange (HIE), the Falls Church, Va.-based Inova Health System is now able to electronically exchange information with the Department of Defense (DoD).

Launched in 2009, the eHealth Exchange has become a rapidly growing community of public and private organizations, representing thousands of providers and millions of patients across all 50 states, solidifying itself as the largest HIE infrastructure in the country, its officials say.

“Inova’s partnership with the Department of Defense through the eHealth Exchange will provide a platform for securely exchanging health information to improve patient care and public health supporting the large population of military personnel in the Washington, DC and Northern Virginia areas,” Ryan Bosch, vice president, technology services and chief medical information officer,” said in a statement.
