HIMSS Analytics has revalidated Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH) with a Stage 7 Award, making it the first acute care facility outside the U.S. to receive revalidation.
SNUBH received the Stage 7 validation in 2010, which was the first outside North America. Providing safer and quality healthcare through human health IT, SNUBH manages over 400 electronic clinical indicators and 200 critical pathways utilizing its clinical data warehouse, according to HIMSS.
In April 2015, HIMSS Analytics introduced its revalidation program to ensure the EMR Ambulatory Adoption Model (EMRAM) continues to reflect industry best practices so that Stage 7 organizations reflect the optimal use and sharing of patient data toward improved healthcare quality, safety, and operational efficiencies. To revalidate, Stage 7 organizations must complete the process in the year between the second year anniversary of the original validation and its expiration. The validation process to confirm a hospital has reached Stage 7 includes a site visit by an executive from HIMSS Analytics and former or current chief information officers and chief medical information officers or chief nursing informatics officers to ensure an unbiased evaluation of the Stage 7 environments.
Developed in 2011, the EMR Ambulatory Adoption Model provides a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for ambulatory facilities owned by hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Logic. As of the fourth quarter 2015, only 7.89 percent of the more than 36,000 U.S. ambulatory clinics in the HIMSS Analytics Logic received the Stage 7 Ambulatory Award.
During the fourth quarter of 2015, only 0.5 percent of the 770 Asia Pacific hospitals surveyed in the HIMSS Analytics Database received the Stage 7 award.
“The revalidation process, reflecting the new EMRAM criteria, is meaningful as it represents our continuous effort to innovate without settling for the status quo. The EMRAM criteria are evolving to disseminate best practices of the industry, and we too will continue our commitment to quickly adapt and lead these changes,” Hee Hwang, chief information officer of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, said in a statement.
