NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) is using Boston-based American Well’s telehealth mobile software development kit to make online visits an integrated part of the health system’s digital health platform, NYP OnDemand.

The platform enables patients to connect virtually, via digital, mobile or web, with NYP’s physician network that includes ColumbiaDoctors, Weill Cornell Medicine’s Physician Organization, and NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Groups.

According to the health system, NYP OnDemand provides online visits (for digital urgent care and follow-up visits) that are now an integrated part of the NewYork-Presbyterian digital experience. Comparable online visit services require that patients download a separate app, or see an unaffiliated doctor.

Leveraging American Well’s telehealth mobile software development kit (SDK), NewYork-Presbyterian patients and doctors get an integrated and streamlined experience in one comprehensive healthcare application, according to the health system. NYP OnDemand digital urgent care and virtual visits are now available to patients in the NYC area, both through the NYP mobile app on iOS as well as the desktop web online.

NYP OnDemand was developed by NewYork-Presbyterian’s Innovation Center to deliver clinician- and consumer-facing solutions to enhance care delivery. The NYP OnDemand suite of online services includes second opinions, emergency or urgent care visits, provider-to-provider consultations and virtual follow-up visits.

“Affording convenient access to online visits is a critical component of our commitment to providing the highest quality care. We’re excited to work with American Well to make this available to our patients, and as part of the overall NYP OnDemand experience,” Peter Fleischut M.D., chief innovation officer of NewYork-Presbyterian, said in a statement.
