Dana Alexander Named 2016 HIMSS Nursing Informatics Leadership Award Winner

Dana Alexander, R.N., has been named the recipient of the 2016 HIMSS-ANI Nursing Informatics Leadership Award, a joint award sponsored by Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI) and HIMSS.

Alexander, who has experience as both a nurse and a business leader, is a recognized industry thought leader, with concentrated expertise in population health, accountable care, strategic planning, and clinical transformation. Her expertise in value based-care, population health and analytics and patient engagement helps create solutions that improve health outcomes and clinical efficiencies.

“While Dana’s background is founded in nursing, she works collaboratively with inter-professional colleagues to advance the healthcare transformation enabled by health IT. In the nursing informatics community, she has been a thought leader in working with three partner groups - the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), the Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform (TIGER) initiative and the National Quality Forum (NQF) quality measure work,” Judy Murphy, R.N., chief nursing officer, IBM Global Healthcare. “She is an exemplary clinical leader and strategic thinker, and consistently serves as a positive advocate and role model for HIMSS and ANI endeavors.” 

“As immediate past chair of the North America HIMSS Board of Directors, Dana has served to ensure the continued dedication to HIMSS’s mission to improve health through the best use of technology,” Joyce Sensmeier, vice president, informatics, HIMSS, said in a statement. “In her tenure as chair, she demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and consistently emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving common goals. Today, Dana serves as a great role model for HIMSS nursing community.”

As executive director, health advisory, Ernst &Young, LLP (EY), Alexander works collaboratively with a wide range of organizations, from governmental departments of health and public sector service providers and payers, to health insurers and private sector providers to create sustainable health care systems that deliver high quality care while being efficient and cost-effective. In this role, she brings together professionals from multiple sectors — health, life sciences, technology, telecommunications, consumer products and more to develop cross-sector perspectives and solutions for transformation and new business models.

Prior to joining EY, Alexander served as vice president, clinical advisory at Divurgent LLC. Alexander also served as the vice president of integrated care delivery and chief nursing officer at Caradigm (GE Healthcare & Microsoft Joint Venture), as well as vice president and chief nursing officer for GE Healthcare.
