A new COVID-19 Coalition is bringing together healthcare organizations, technology firms, nonprofits, academia, and startups to bring their collective expertise, capabilities, data and insights to flatten the pandemic’s curve in order to preserve the healthcare delivery system.
Co-chaired by Jay Schnitzer, M.D., chief medical and technology officer at MITRE Corp., and John Halamka, M.D., president of Mayo Clinic Platform, the coalition will coordinate resources across America’s large healthcare sector.
“With communication and coordination between coalition members, we can save lives through real-time learning to preserve healthcare delivery and protect populations,” according to the new group’s website. “With top experts and industry leaders sharing plans and resources – and working collaboratively – we can deploy resources more effectively and offer better situational awareness to those at the front lines.”
The coalition will gather and analyze data to inform decisions on:
• Healthy populations—by understanding the effectiveness of community mitigation efforts through various social distancing efforts and taking actions at the community level to slow the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the burden on healthcare delivery
• People at risk of COVID-19 exposure who need diagnostic testing
• Healthcare delivery systems (virtual and physical) with a focus on staff, space and stuff (supply chain)
Participating organizations include Arcadia Health, athenahealth, Buoy Health, CommonWell Alliance, HCA Healthcare, Intermountain Healthcare, LabCorp, Leavitt Partners, MassChallenge, Mayo Clinic, Microsoft, MITRE, Rush University System for Health, Salesforce, and the University of California Health System.
Nobody will be paid for coalition work, without exception.
