Lexington Clinic Announces Data Breach

Lexington Clinic, a large medical group practice in the Lexington, Ky. area, is notifying 1,018 patients of a privacy breach. The clinic says a laptop was stolen from its neurology department overnight on Dec. 7, 2011 and contained patient information.

Lexington Clinic, a large medical group practice in the Lexington, Ky. area, is notifying 1,018 patients of a privacy breach. The clinic says a laptop was stolen from its neurology department overnight on Dec. 7, 2011 and contained patient information.

Following an internal investigation of the incident, Lexington Clinic says it has determined the laptop contained patient names, contact information and diagnoses for certain Lexington Clinic patients receiving services within the neurology department. The clinic says the laptop did not contain the personal financial information of Lexington Clinic patients, such as Social Security Numbers, credit card numbers and bank account numbers.

Lexington Clinic says it immediately notified law enforcement authorities once it learned of the theft. The clinic says it is notifying, by letter, all patients who may be affected by this theft. Thus far, it claims there is no evidence thus far that any patient information has been misused.
