The 2012 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Conference in Las Vegas this week is breaking new records this year in attendance. According to HIMSS officials attendance numbers are the highest ever for the health IT conference, coming in at a whopping 36,526 attendees on day 4. That figure represents a 16-percent increase in attendance over last year’s conferences, which counted 31,500 attendees.

On the other side of the booth, there were 1,123 exhibitors this year, compared to 1,000 exhibitors in 2011. This might explain the reason for a multi-level exhibition floor this year, with many exhibitors and the Interoperability Showcase exhibiting on the lower level of the Venetian Sands Expo Center.
