Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare Corporation, a healthcare system with 49-hospitals and more than 100 freestanding outpatient centers, has announced that Paul T. Browne has been named the company’s new CIO. Browne has been at Tenet since June of this year as the head of the applied informatics department, which he will maintain with his new position.

"Paul is an established industry leader who has the necessary experience and vision to integrate our health information technology initiatives with Tenet's overall IT efforts," Trevor Fetter, Tenet's president and CEO, said in a statement "Tenet is a leader in advancing health IT systems to improve clinical outcomes. Paul's expanded leadership will further enhance our robust health IT program and complement the excellent work that Liz Johnson, vice president of applied clinical informatics, and our entire team have been delivering."

Before Tenet, Browne had a long stint at Trinity Health, where he served in a number of health IT leadership roles. As Trinity’s chief integration officer, Browne was recognized by InformationWeek as a "Top 50 Innovator" across all industries and a "Top 5 Innovator" in healthcare.

Browne takes over for Stephen F. Brown, who will retire in March 2013 after more than 35 years with the company.
