Humana Acquires HIE Vendor, Certify Data Systems

Humana, a Louisville, Ky.-based payer, has acquired Certify Data Systems, a San Jose, Calif.-based provider of health information exchange (HIE) technology, the company’s jointly announced. Humana says it plans on integrating Certify’s HIE technology, such as the HealthLogix enterprise HIE platform, into its infrastructure.

Marc Willard, founder and CEO of Certify Data Systems, said in a statement: “Certify Data Systems has been a pioneer in using health information exchange technology to help providers exchange essential health information in real-time,” said Willard. “Humana is focused on ensuring its members can benefit from a health information exchange platform. We can help Humana scale their network to bring the benefits of this technology to Humana’s provider community.”

Willard will continue to oversee Certify’s operations, as the company will operate as a subsidiary of Humana, serving hospital, physician and laboratory customers. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
