Quality Systems Inc. (QSI) and its subsidiary NextGen Healthcare have acquired Mirth Corporation, a health information technology vendor that specializes in interoperability, for an undisclosed amount the company recently announced.

The Mirth acquisition is about “harmonization of data,” QSI said in a release, across various vendor platforms and different layers of care. QSI is looking to enhance its enterprise interoperability offering, with aggregated, vendor-agnostic data analytics products. QSI is looking to integrate real-time, longitudinal health information from a wide variety of electronic health record (EHR) systems at different hospitals, physicians and ancillary care providers.

NextGen Healthcare was ranked 28th in Healthcare Informatics’ annual list of the top 100 vendors in the industry. Bringing on Mirth, QSI says, will give NextGen customers improved data exchange capabilities, allowing for better participation in local, state and federal eHealth initiatives.

"Mirth's reputation as one of the most adopted, open, and globally trusted interconnectivity platforms is a natural fit for NextGen's established network of providers," stated Steve Puckett, chief technology officer for Quality Systems, Inc. "By bringing our companies together we can quickly bring to market an unprecedented level of data exchange that will allow patients, providers and healthcare facilities to participate fully in a collaborative and connected care environment."
