Stanford Hospital & Clinics (SHC) has named Pravene Nath, M.D., as its chief information officer and Christopher (Topher) Sharp, M.D., as chief medical information officer.

Nath joined Palo Alto, Calif.-based SHC in September 2008 as CMIO and has served as its interim CIO since former CIO Carolyn Byerly left that position in January 2013 to form her own consulting firm called Platinum Advisory Services LLC.

He is also a clinical assistant professor of emergency medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

“Dr. Nath has been instrumental in establishing innovative new technology programs at SHC, and we are fortunate to have him leading our IT initiatives,” said Amir Dan Rubin, president and CEO of SHC, in a prepared statement. “His leadership has helped SHC become a paperless hospital for improved patient safety and quality, and to earn national recognition for our outstanding levels of IT adoption.”

Sharp, a clinical associate professor in the Department of Medicine, will report to Nath and oversee SHC’s clinical informatics strategy, optimization of information technology workflows and new EMR implementations.
