Nevada Picks Vendor for Statewide HIE
The Nevada Health Information Exchange (NV-HIE) and Nevada’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is moving forward with its statewide electronic health information exchange, using Orion Health (a Santa Monica, Calif.-based company) as its HIE software vendor.
NV-HIE went with Orion because it is able to integrate various technology platforms utilized by government agencies and healthcare organizations across the state. The plans right now are to employ the HIE software as an SaaS (Software as a Service).
David LaBarge, CEO, NV-HIE, said in a statement: “The enhanced state-of-the-art features of Orion Health HIE and Orion Health Direct Secure Messaging will allow providers and payers to have access to the most current patient information, and they will have the ability to securely communicate data quickly, while supporting a trusted HIE environment.”
The NV-HIE will use state HIE grant funds to establish core HIE services. It already offers Direct messaging from Orion, as Nevada DIRECT (NV DIRECT), which allows providers to exchange communications. Nevada is just the latest state to adopt Orion’s HIE technology, others have included New Mexico and Minnesota.
