San Francisco-based Practice Fusion, a provider of a cloud electronic health record (EHR) platform, has acquired Ringadoc, which is a startup that created a mobile app that triages phone calls to a doctor’s office.

The acquisition, Practice Fusion says, is a play into the telemedicine market. The app from Ringadoc allows doctors to access and respond to after-hours messages via web browser or mobile applications. The app also gives doctors the ability to triage calls, centralize communications, and manage patients. Practice Fusion will integrate the service into its EHR.

“There are three things necessary to make telemedicine possible: doctors, patients and data – and Practice Fusion’s EHR has all of these at scale. Ringadoc was a natural fit for us and will advance development of our full-fledged telemedicine platform, which could translate to avoiding millions of in-person trips to see a doctor for everything from a fever to a potential concussion,” Ryan Howard, founder and CEO, Practice Fusion, said in a statement.

Details of the deal were not disclosed.
