The Healthcare Administrative Technology Association, a new association of practice management system (PMS) vendors and affiliated stakeholders, officially formed this week.

The association aims to be an advocate for the revenue cycle industry on healthcare administrative technology issues to government representatives and other stakeholders. It also plans to give members the opportunity to receive education and healthcare industry information. It hopes to solidify PMS vendors with other industry stakeholders and advocate with one representative voice. The association will be called HATA for short.

“Formal representation of such an important piece of the healthcare ecosystem is critical to the advancement of the industry,” Tim McMullen, J.D. executive director of HATA, said in a statement. “HATA is a key stakeholder in the $40 billion physician revenue cycle industry and will be an active and influential voice promoting the goals and values within the healthcare administrative industry and driving administrative efficiencies.”

HATA is making membership open to any administrative technology company that creates and installs practice management systems. There are also affiliate openings for payers and providers and associate members can include other professional or trade associations.

The association actually was announced back in May but this is the first information coming to light on the details of its existence.
