InSite One Announces HIE Within A Unified Enterprise Archive

Nov. 24, 2009

Wallingford, CT, November 23, 2009 – InSite One, Inc., the industry’s leading provider of medical data archiving and disaster recovery managed services, announces the creation of the first nationwide Health Information Exchange (HIE) spanning over 600 healthcare institutions across the United States. InSite One currently manages more than three-billion medical documents comprising over thirty-nine million medical imaging procedures and other medical data in the nation’s largest unified medical archive.  This archive currently contains patient data from over five-percent of the US population.  By leveraging industry leading technology and infrastructure, InSite One is delivering the first national multi-enterprise, multimedia HIE.  InSite One’s customers will be able to utilize this new technology to meet the patient data exchange requirements of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

This industry leading HIE capability is being launched at the RSNA 2009 (Radiology Society of North America) convention in Chicago which begins November 30.  The new services provide for cross-enterprise sharing features that support the exchange of medical data between disparate clinical systems within a hospital as well as between hospitals within an HIE. This managed solution provides inherent business continuance capability critical as healthcare moves to all digital solutions. The service delivers an industry validated technology solution set with proof statements in implementation of large scale projects.

All of InSite One’s 600 plus clinical organizations clients are currently connected using Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise standards of DICOM and HL7 will have their data next year in a document registry ready to participate in the cross-enterprise sharing (XDS) enabled HIE affinity domain(s) of their choice.  This capability builds upon their investment in core data management services that has protected their enterprise data and creates an application neutral conduit for health information exchange.

The InSite One solution is based upon service oriented architecture (SOA) which uses software services to collect and share data across disparate clinical systems.  The InDex software with XDS capability brings diagnostic solutions together in a secure environment to provide an integrated perspective of patient records—without necessitating the replacement of existing systems. Importantly, inherent in this service architecture is the ability to provide business continuance to any clinical department, enterprise or HIE in all configurations.

“Our experience in archiving imaging data is key as image data makes up approximately 85% of a patient’s medical record.  Operationally, imaging contributes to the “meaningful use” of an EHR by increasing the overall information universally available across an enterprise and its extended care environment. InSite One is readying our clients to address their inevitable requirements for data sharing”, commented Jim Champagne, President of InSite One. “We strongly believe that leveraging our existing data management expertise, especially imaging, and new industry-leading technology allows us to provide the most cost effective and long-term viable solution for participation in health information exchanges”, he concluded.
