Schaumburg, Ill. (January 5, 2010)— Matheny Medical and Educational Center, a New Jersey hospital for children with medically complex developmental disabilities, has been able to facilitate and improve coordination among its staff with an Intranet portal designed by HospitalPortal.NET™.
HospitalPortal.NET is a leading provider of secure hospital-specific Intranet sites for electronic information sharing and information publishing. With a staff of 500, Matheny cares for 101 inpatients at its main campus in Peapack, N.J., and operates five group homes in two counties.
“We were looking for a central repository for our policies and procedures, which were being maintained separately by each department with insufficient continuity,” said Ron Daniel, Information Systems director. “We were also looking to disseminate them in a way that ensured everyone had the most current version without wasting resources.
“We chose HospitalPortal.NET for its ease of use and the extent of implementation services provided. All of our policies and procedures are now in one place, in one official version, and our portal also makes it possible to centralize dissemination of announcements, directories and conference room reservations.”
The director noted that the staff was enthusiastic about how the new portal has streamlined the management and communication of policies and procedures. Prior to the Intranet installation, the Center relied on paper copies that frequently had to be retyped due to changes.
The HospitalPortal.NET portal will also spare the environment and provide substantial savings in time and money. The facility expects to save the cost and environmental impact of printing manuals for all of its departments and the time it used to take to locate the electronic files corresponding to the official paper copies.
The director said the portal has the granularity of security necessary for each department to maintain its own section of the Intranet and has provided value beyond practical considerations. “It has provided us with a sense of community and organizational identity on the internal computer network,” Daniel said.
