Crystal Run Healthcare Links New RIS/PACS With EMR

Jan. 7, 2010

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Jan. 6 — Crystal Run Healthcare has what many healthcare providers dream about—a modern RIS/PACS that efficiently shares information with its EMR. After an imaging exam is conducted, a radiologist reads the exam using the CARESTREAM RIS/PACS. The initial report is immediately transferred to the EMR where the radiologist approves it and it immediately becomes viewable by the referring physician.

Headquartered in Middletown, N.Y., Crystal Run Healthcare is a large medical practice that serves patients in the Mid-Hudson Valley and lower Catskill regions. It has 180 physicians and almost a dozen facilities.

“One of the key reasons we selected the newest generation RIS/PACS from Carestream Health was its modern architecture and its ability to interface with a variety of other systems, including enabling bidirectional information exchange with our EMR,” said Miguel Hernandez, Director of IT, Crystal Run Healthcare. “This RIS/PACS was clearly designed from the ground up to function smoothly in a modern multi-vendor, multi-system environment.”

The practice also appreciates the advanced functionality and reliability offered by the RIS/PACS platform. “The RIS offers several key advantages including a color-coded display that tracks each patient’s status including current wait time and flexible scheduling parameters that can be adapted to address the needs of each modality and exam room,” said Greg Spencer, M.D., the practice’s Chief Medical Officer.

“The CARESTREAM PACS offers advanced functionality and ease of use that improves productivity for both our radiologists and physicians. Our radiologists were particularly impressed with the PowerViewer’s ability to immediately deliver automatic registration and matching of volumetric data for enhanced reading of these complex exams,” he added.

The practice also implemented two DIRECTVIEW DR 7500 Systems and a DIRECTVIEW CR 975 System to provide fast, efficient digital image capture.

Carestream Health’s RIS/PACS platform can support environments ranging from a single provider to complex regional and national healthcare networks that include dozens of healthcare facilities.
