United Health Services Expands Siemens Relationship

Jan. 13, 2010

Malvern, PA, January 12, 2010 – Today, Siemens Healthcare announced that long-time customer United Health Services recently signed a multi-year contract for Soarian®, Siemens’ innovative, web-based Healthcare Information System (HIS) that helps hospitals facilitate enterprise-wide workflows to more efficiently meet their unique clinical, financial, and administrative challenges. The deal is part of the health system’s broad, patient-centric goal to become a leading regional care provider through enhanced workflow efficiencies and world-class clinical services.

United Health Services (UHS) in Binghamton, NY is a multi-facility healthcare delivery system in Binghamton, NY comprised of Wilson Medical Center, Binghamton General Hospital, Chenango Memorial Hospital, Delaware Valley Hospital, and United Medical Associates. Already a Siemens partner for 12 years, UHS signed a new agreement for Soarian Clinicals and Financials, which extends the relationship another nine years. Soarian will be integrated within the existing UHS health network to streamline its decentralized business office structure in order to help UHS realize operational efficiencies, cost savings, and care delivery improvements.

The move stems from UHS’ vision to be a tightly integrated healthcare system by 2011, recognized by patients, physicians, and community leaders as a leading provider of health services and distinguished for superior clinical capabilities and outcomes. UHS regards its ongoing Siemens relationship and upcoming implementation of Soarian Financials and Clinicals as a key step in that process.

According to the health network, Soarian was chosen in part based on its next-generation service-oriented architecture (SOA). UHS is particularly excited about Soarian Financials’ ability to adapt to upcoming changes in healthcare payment models and help consolidate disparate financial data streams into one enterprise-wide network that hosts all of the components needed for successful revenue cycle management.

As part of the new agreement, Siemens Managed Services will remotely host Soarian Clinicals and Financials for UHS through Siemens’ world-renowned Information Systems Center located in Malvern, Pa.
