Virginia Premier Improves Provider Communication

Jan. 15, 2010

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.–(January 12, 2010)– NaviNet, America’s largest real-time healthcare communications network, today announced that Virginia Premier Health Plan (VPHP), a Medicaid managed care organization owned by UHS Managed Care, Inc., has implemented NaviNet as their Web-based provider communications portal. UHS Managed Care, Inc. is the Health Plan Division of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System.

To keep provider satisfaction levels high while reducing costs associated with provider call volume, VPHP has deployed eligibility and benefits and claim status inquiry transactions via NaviNet Sponsor to providers treating the more than 160,000 patients insured by the plan. In 2010, NaviNet will also support electronic pre-authorization and referrals, replacing VPHP’s existing solution and enabling the plan to meet state requirements for electronic processing.

NaviNet Sponsor enables VPHP to deliver provider connectivity with a low-cost, low-risk implementation. NaviNet’s robust, flexible platform allows health plans to add new features at their own pace, including enhanced claims management and medical management with clinical transactions. NaviNet’s multi-payer portal is already used by more than 17,000 Virginia providers, many of whom treat VPHP members. As a result, the plan expects to see rapid provider adoption and utilization.

“At Virginia Premier we pride ourselves in being extremely provider-friendly and will offer NaviNet at no cost to providers to help them decrease administrative burdens and focus on delivering quality care to a vulnerable patient population,” said Carl Gattuso, CEO, Health Plan Division, VCU Health System. “NaviNet Sponsor fits naturally into common provider office processes, is easy-to-use and allows us to represent our brand among a key constituent.”

“We’re pleased to see a leading Medicaid health plan join the NaviNet Network to deliver providers a solution that supports health information exchange, including real-time access to clinical, financial and administrative data,” said Brad Waugh, president and CEO of NaviNet. “NaviNet gives Virginia Premier the solution it needs to quickly realize the benefits of electronic health information exchange.”
