Black Box Improves Communications for Pioneer Medical Group

Jan. 27, 2010

PITTSBURGH–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Black Box Network Services (NASDAQ:BBOX), an industry-leading provider of voice communications, data infrastructure , and product solutions, announced today that it has been selected by Pioneer Medical Group (PMG) in Cerritos, CA to implement and maintain a state-of-the art communications solution including updating the organization’s WAN infrastructure and deploying a Cisco unified communications platform.

PMG wanted to replace their legacy infrastructure and system with several goals in mind. First, the group wanted a solution that was easy to use and able to be deployed with minimal configuration and simplified network management. They also needed a cost effective system that would meet their requirements. Lastly, they wanted a flexible, scalable solution that could grow with their organization. An integrated Cisco solution met all of those goals.

Cisco Unified Communications Manager will replace PMG’s ten year old PBX system and will give the organization new unified communications functionality with Cisco Unified Messaging, Cisco Unified Presence, and Cisco IP Communicator deployment. Black Box Network Services will replace the existing LAN infrastructure with Cisco switches that are PoE and QoS capable, and upgrade existing WAN routers, making them voice gateways with failover redundancy (SRST).

“PMG needed a solutions approach that would meet their business and technical needs. The Cisco solution we will implement will reduce interoperability issues between disparate technologies and allow PMG to reap the business benefits of an integrated solution while building a foundation for future technology goals and requirements,” said Peter Marquis, vice president, Black Box Network Services.

Pioneer Medical Group is a multi-specialty healthcare provider serving several communities in the Southeast Los Angeles area. PMG is a physician-owned and operated medical group that includes eight clinics, two after-hours clinics, primary care physician services, in-house specialists, and onsite radiology and lab facilities in six of its locations. PMG’s, multi-site environment required an integrated solution to drive efficiency and open communications for the organization and their patients, reducing hold times, and adding agents to improve patient care.
