Epocrates and RealCME Unite to Deliver Enhanced e-Learning Offerings

Jan. 29, 2010

SAN MATEO, Calif., January 27, 2010 – Epocrates, Inc. and RealCME announced today a new partnership to deliver innovative and engaging continuing medical education (CME) curriculum on an advanced technology platform that addresses the needs of CME providers, supporters and health professionals available for the iPhone® device and online.

Epocrates, developers of popular clinical solutions, will provide broader access to the courses and powerful learning tools developed on RealCME’s course development and analytic technology platform. Physicians will have the opportunity to complete CME courses in new formats, including “Virtual Patient” interactions and interactive grand rounds. The educational courses will provide physicians with the opportunity to apply best practices in authentic and clinically relevant situations. Participants will also have access to a customizable CMECompanion® to set goals, review completed courses and engage colleagues in collaborative educational activities and discussions.

“Epocrates is the trusted leader in the mobile delivery of clinical information and education,” said Dr. Steven Haimowitz, chief executive officer of RealCME. “We are eager to introduce new learning experiences simulating authentic clinical settings to their vast network. Our technology platform enables the development of robust sequential curriculum designed to improve learner performance, an element all stakeholders are looking for in today’s quality driven environment.”

Medical education providers will have the opportunity to build integrated, evidence-based courses utilizing the RealCME platform and reach Epocrates’ large and active network of healthcare professionals. The CME activities will be supported by RealCME’s powerful online reporting platform that collects and reports data in real-time and conveniently provides educators and supporters with insight into the impact of current initiatives and on-going educational needs. Analysis will include changes in learners’ performance, confidence, knowledge, competency, practice strategies and achievement of learning objectives across the curriculum.

“Physicians are hungry for continuing education in a manageable and engaging format,” said Dr. Geoff Rutledge, chief medical officer and executive vice president of product development at Epocrates. “By working with RealCME, we can provide a unique experience for learners with inherent time constraints and varied needs, as well as demonstrate measureable results for educators and sponsors.”

Healthcare professionals subscribing to Epocrates free and premium software will have unlimited, free access to the CME courses available initially online and via the iPhone platform. Physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and registered nurses are encouraged to participate in this robust continuing education experience available from Epocrates and RealCME.
