Garden City Hospital Integrates Software in the Emergency Department

Feb. 9, 2010

Dallas, TX and Garden City, MI – Emergisoft is pleased to announce that Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Michigan, has successfully integrated Dragon® Medical with EmergisoftED in their emergency department. As of February 7th, Garden City has completely deployed the speech-recognition software and is now creating transcription-free clinical documentation, reducing time spent documenting care, and optimizing EMR usage for their clinicians.

Emergency physicians at Garden City Hospital now dictate in their own words, in real-time, letting them instantly review, sign, and make notes available for other clinicians. They are able to navigate quickly through EmergisoftED and document into either the Document Guides or Emergisoft EC Forms.

“The integration of both Emergisoft and Dragon Medical provides the physician the best of both technologies – EMR and voice recognition,” Dr. Brian Kim, emergency physician at Garden City said. “I am proud of the work that was accomplished by our team.”

Dragon Medical is designed especially for physician practices, clinics, and healthcare organizations to create transcription free clinical documentation, reduce time spent documenting care and optimize Electronic Medical Record usage for healthcare providers.

“It is becoming increasingly clear to healthcare organizations that Dragon Medical enhances the physician experience in using EMRs and is a key element to increasing physician productivity and satisfaction. Physicians find their notes more detailed, more complete, and often justify higher reimbursement,” Mark Willette-Green, Vector Computer Technologies, Inc. said. “Hospitals are finding that Dragon pays for itself within a matter of weeks.”

Garden City began testing Dragon Medical in their emergency department in June 2009. CareTech Solutions, Garden City Hospital’s IT partner, has been supporting and training the end users on Dragon Medical and EmergisoftED. CareTech has provided IT management services for the hospital since 2001 and supports and maintains all IT functions for Garden City Hospital

“The physicians easily adapted to the technology with a short training program. The implementation was simple and did not require special technical resources,” said Rhoda Smith, IS Systems Analyst at CareTech Solutions.

Since going live with Emergisoft in December 2004, Garden City has benefited from Emergisoft’s emergency department software, EmergisoftED, a completely browser-based solution that automates each step of the patient management process in the emergency department. Garden City recently upgraded to Emergisoft’s CCHIT Certified ®08 Emergency Department EHR (Electronic Health Record) in August 2009.
