Eaton Secures Stimulus Funds to Help Power New Military Medical Center

PITTSBURGH–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation (NYSE:ETN) today announced that it will supply $8 million in electrical products and services to support the consolidation of two medical centers into the new San Antonio Military Medical Center on the Fort Sam Houston Army base in Texas.

The project ranks as one of San Antonio’s largest-ever construction jobs. Eaton is participating in the project through one of its customers, Conti Electric, a Detroit-based electrical contractor. The U.S. stimulus program is funding the project.

Construction of the new facility began in early 2009 with a mid-2011 completion date. The project involves constructing a 700,000 square-foot medical trauma tower that includes 425 inpatient beds, 32 operating rooms, a Level 1 trauma/emergency room, bone marrow and organ transplant facilities, and neonatal/pediatric units to serve more than 27,000 military and civilian personnel; renovating more than 280,000 square feet of hospital space; and constructing a central energy plant and parking garage with a vehicle capacity of almost 5,000. Eaton will provide power management services and products. This will include distribution low voltage products such as panelboards and switchboards, as well as services for start up, testing and training.
