HERSHEY, Pa., Feb. 3, 2009 — AT&T* is working with Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center to provide complimentary AT&T Wi-Fi access in hospital patient areas. Under a new contract, AT&T and Penn State University will equip nearly 500 patient rooms throughout the Medical Center with AT&T Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing patients and their visitors to access high speed wireless broadband.
For healthcare facilities like Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Wi-Fi is an efficient way to provide convenient Internet access for visitors and patients. The service will be available in patient areas of the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute and Main Hospital Building along with hotspot zones in other areas of the campus, allowing users Internet access via a laptop, smartphone or other Wi-Fi enabled device. The Medical Center provides a separate secure wireless network to all Penn State Hershey staff, faculty and students for business and educational use.
“We know that providing complimentary AT&T Wi-Fi service will be invaluable to our patients and visitors so that they can stay connected to family, friends and work at all times during their hospital visit or extended stay,” said Sherry Mettley, IT director of Infrastructure Engineering for Penn State Hershey Medical Center. “As AT&T continues to expand Wi-Fi services across Penn State campuses, we are pleased that members of the Penn State Hershey Medical Center community will also be able to utilize this service.”
Last fall, Penn State and AT&T announced an agreement to provide Wi-Fi access across more than 23 campuses and University locations. AT&T will continue to provide around-the-clock technical support for those who need assistance connecting to the wireless network while on campus or at the medical center.
