ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. –  May 4, 2010 – FairWarning, a supplier of cross-platform healthcare privacy auditing solutions for electronic health records (EHRs), announced the availability of the first independent data definition guides for patient privacy breach detection and prevention in healthcare. The FairWarning Patient Privacy Framework data definition guides are based on the company’s experience deploying privacy auditing and monitoring solutions in more than 300 hospitals and 1,200 clinics across the United States, Canada and Europe.

FairWarning has worked closely with customers, partners, and industry specialists to develop this proven framework and corresponding data definition guides for wide-scale patient privacy auditing. They are designed to assist healthcare providers, systems integrators and electronic health record and application vendors in establishing best practices required for breach detection, remediation, audit responses and organizational adoption of patient privacy auditing and monitoring.

Leading healthcare organizations are already adopting privacy auditing solutions; however, almost all systems continue to suffer from major patient privacy, compliance and auditing gaps that may involve hundreds of applications accessing protected health information.

Globally and domestically, healthcare legislation is mandating the protection of patient privacy and an organizations’ ability to audit access to private patient data.

The FairWarning Patient Privacy Framework is a series of documents intended to enable wide-scale patient privacy auditing, breach detection, remediation and breach prevention.
