Harris Corporation awarded $19 million contract to develop statewide HIE for Florida

Dec. 23, 2010

MELBOURNE, FL/TALLAHASSEE, FL, December 22,   Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has been awarded a four-year, $19 million contract by Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) to implement a statewide health information exchange (HIE) infrastructure that will improve the delivery and coordination of health care.

The Harris solution will connect health entities across Florida – including physicians, hospitals, regional health information exchanges, and state government agencies – and provide timely, secure and authorized exchange of patient health information. By leveraging Harris’ open, standards-based solution, the state can efficiently adapt to health policies and technologies, minimize the total cost of ownership, and build on existing regional investments for a connected Florida HIE.

“Transforming health care requires a fully connected health information framework,” said Jim Traficant, vice president and general manager, Harris Healthcare Solutions. “Florida is one of the largest states in the country, with a significant aging and transient population. The Florida HIE can become a model for the U.S. by improving patient safety and quality while lowering costs through connected and secure health care information.”

Harris Healthcare Solutions provides secure enterprise intelligence solutions and services for government and commercial customers — including systems integration, intelligent infrastructure, advanced visualization and display, enterprise digital content management and IT solutions.  A leader in federal healthcare IT integration, Harris products, systems and services improve healthcare outcomes by assuring that critical medical and benefits information is delivered with security and privacy to the right person, on the right device, at the point of care.
