MedData, Inc. acquires MedDirect

Jan. 12, 2012

BRECKSVILLE, Ohio–(BUSINESS WIRE)– MedData, Inc., a leading provider of medical billing services, announced today the acquisition of MedDirect, Inc., a Grand Rapids, Mich.-based patient services company, which provides revenue cycle management services and advanced personalized patient communications to healthcare organizations. MedDirect works with its national base of clients to increase reimbursements from patients, enhance the patient pre- and post-clinical experience, and transform patients into well-informed and loyal customers of their respective providers.

MedDirect’s technology-driven services will provide a significant benefit and competitive differentiation for MedData’s clients via the Company’s “MedData Plus,” solution. MedData Plus, launched in October 2011, is MedData’s proprietary patient service solution specifically designed to solve meaningful revenue and patient satisfaction challenges.

“The economy and emerging payment models are transforming patients into educated healthcare consumers,” explained Douglas S. Thompson, MedData’s chief executive officer. “We’ve found that it’s no longer enough to provide care and bill a payer for payment. It’s now essential to incorporate a completely new set of retail oriented revenue cycle tools and develop more meaningful relationships with the patients themselves to ensure a provider’s long-term financial health. In addition, the national movement to establish Accountable Care Organizations (ACO’s) as well as to develop value-based reimbursement approaches and limit hospital re-admissions underscores the importance of continuity of care and patient satisfaction. We have decided to tackle these challenges head-on by capitalizing on the expertise of MedDirect, whose provider clients are realizing an average improvement in patient collection rates of 30 percent or higher, a return on investment in excess of 100 percent and significantly enhanced patient satisfaction levels. Integrating these capabilities into our successful billing offering will substantially benefit our clients’ practices.”

“This acquisition further strengthens MedData’s leadership position in the billing services sector by putting us at the leading edge of patient-pay and patient communications services. This capability will be critical to the viability of our clients’ practices for many years to come,” Thompson said.

MedDirect will continue to run its operations out of Grand Rapids, Mich. Concurrent with the acquisition, MedDirect chief executive officer Ken Bloem has joined MedData’s board as executive chairman. Bloem commented: “MedDirect’s distinctive patient communication services, coupled with MedData’s revenue cycle operational scalability, is an important paradigm shift for providers. This acquisition places MedData at the forefront of healthcare billing innovation by aligning enhanced operational processes with improved patient-centric communications and technologies, thus ensuring our clients’ practices are well positioned to succeed in a rapidly changing healthcare environment.”
