Oct. 21, 2013

WATERTOWN, Mass. and HOLLYWOOD, Fla., Oct. 17, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — athenahealth, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATHN), a leading provider of cloud-based electronic health record (EHR), practice management, and care coordination services, today announced that Hospital Physician Partners (HPP), a medical management and staffing firm with approximately 100 client hospitals in 22 states, has selected athenahealth's cloud-based services to optimize medical billing and strengthen patient communications.

HPP will deploy athenaCollector, athenaCommunicator and athenaClarity in pursuit of streamlined collections, engaging patient communications, and system-wide business intelligence. HPP selected athenahealth's suite of interoperable, cloud-based services for its ability to scale with HPP's growing staff of clinicians. athenaCollector, athenahealth's practice management and enhancement tool, will optimize revenue streams through its patented rules engine, which simplifies billing and insurance reimbursements. The rules engine analyzes the collections rates of athenahealth's more than 47,000 users in real-time and translates this experience into best practices for all of its clients.

“We were struck by the cloud-based advantage of athenahealth's services, which effectively crowdsource the wisdom of tens of thousands of other health care providers. This is a benefit that traditional software-only solutions simply cannot provide. We're looking forward to adopting athenaCollector's tailored recommendations, which have forecasted a collections increase of six percent,” noted Jeffrey Schillinger, Hospital Physician Partners CEO.

As a network with broad reach, HPP will also benefit from the big data analysis power of athenaClarity, a network intelligence tool that provides health care organizations with the metrics and performance insight to effectively manage their business and populations of patients.

“Hospital Physician Partners is an industry leader in emergency department and hospitalist program staffing and management. We at athenahealth are thrilled to offer them the right tools to manage their growth, optimize profit, and continue to provide excellent care in hospitals across the U.S.,” said Jonathan Bush, chairman and CEO, athenahealth. “What's more, as HPP's 2,000 providers contribute their inestimable experience to our nationwide, cloud-based platform, we'll be able to produce and share even more knowledge with the network.”
