MediNotes Corporation

2006 marked MediNotes' 10 year anniversary. Having spent the last decade perfecting its electronic medical record (EMR) solutions, the West Des Moines, Iowa-based company recently gained CCHIT certification. Not only has MediNotes earned industry accreditation, it was awarded the 2007 Technology Company of the Year by The Technology Association of Iowa. Already serving more than 4,000 sites nationwide, MediNotes continues to improve its software's integration capabilities, recently announcing that it can now interface with three popular Marco devices and Huvitz CDR-Mate Auto-refracting device. MediNotes has also signed a three year agreement to use enhanced e-prescribing services from Alpharetta, Ga.-based Per-Se Technologies (now owned by McKesson, also based in Alpharetta).

Medical Present Value

A $14 million equity investment in 2006 has already begun to deliver substantial dividends to Austin, Texas-based MPV. With a growing number of medical groups signing on to deploy MPV Phynance, the company has nabbed contracts with San Jose Medical Group, San Jose, Calif., the Portland Clinic, Portland, Ore., and UCLA Medical Group, Santa Monica, Calif. Its solution provides financial tools and consultative services to monitor payer performance, verify reimbursement, and reduce registration, coding and posting errors. MPV was ranked number 177 on Deloitte's 2006 Technology Fast 500, and currently serves more than 31,200 physicians nationwide.

Portico Systems

Last year was a good year for Conshohocken, Pa.-based Portico Systems, which reported record growth, doubling its customer base and increasing revenue by more than 150 percent. 2006's financial boost came in the form of $6 million in capital provided by Wayne, Pa.-based Safeguard Scientifics, now a partner of the company. According to Portico, five out of the top 30 health plans are now using the company's solutions, including Portico PNO and Portico NPI. Portico Systems helps health plans gain NPI compliance, while its Portico Provider Platform streamlines provider network processes.

Remedy MD

Started in 2003, Sandy, Utah-based Remedy MD currently boasts over 200 customers, covering more than 170,000 registered patients. No stranger to software development, the last two years have spawned the launch of various Remedy MD Web-based solutions; including BariEHR Version 2.0, providing an inventory and invoicing management module for bariatricians; Smart Platform, providing decision support and outcome tracking applications for medical applications providers; and Investigate, providing data integration for medical researchers. Early this year, Remedy MD completed a joint development project with the Ohio-based Cleveland Clinic to deliver Investigate, disease-specific software that aggregates clinical and research findings to improve the productivity of the facility's clinical researchers.

National Electronic Attachment Inc.

National Electronic Attachment's (NEA) electronic claims solution, FastAttach, is gaining traction in both government and commercial industry corners. The Atlanta-based company's solution enables healthcare claims attachments to be electronically transmitted to NEA's repository, where insurance companies are able to view forms online. In 2006, several insurance payers began implementing FastAttach. Clients in the commercial area include Premier Access Insurance, Sacramento, Calif., Independence Blue Cross, Philadelphia, Pa., and Northeastern Pennsylvania Blue Cross, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Medicaid organizations also embracing the technology included Health Net, Connecticut, Amerigroup, Washington, D.C., and Third Party Administrators Inc., Georgia. National Electronic Attachment is headquartered in Atlanta.

MD Technologies

MD Technologies Inc., headquartered in Baton Rouge, La., experienced record growth last year, increasing its revenue 370 percent from 2005 to 2006. In an effort to reduce costs, specifically those associated with public compliance, MD Technologies has filed paperwork with the SEC to privatize the company. According to the company, this will allow it to focus on developing products and services, rather than pouring money into accounting and legal fees. The company currently provides products such as Medtopia Manager, a practice management system; Medtopia Expert, an outsourced back-office service; Medtopia DMS, a paperless office solution; and MedtopiaEMR, an electronic medical record application.
