Doctors define the ideal eDetail
Physicians say the best eDetail would be short (less than five minutes), available 24/7, contain fresh information, offer interactive or self-guided education and include an incentive, according to a study by Manhattan Research, New York.
In 2005, 246,000 doctors have participated in eDetailing, up from 141,000 doctors in 2002, according to "Electronic Detailing: Trends in Adoption and Use of Web-based Applications."
Doctors were polled about their attitudes, preferences and use of eDetailing for more than 45 large drug companies. For highlights of the study, "Electronic Detailing at a Glance," visit www.manhattanresearch.com/edetailing.aspx.
National Consumer Health Privacy Survey results show consumer concern
The California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF), Oakland, Calif., has released a follow-up study to its 1999 survey of how consumers view, manage and safeguard their personal health information. The follow-up study aimed to evaluate how Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy notices, healthcare IT and recent patient data privacy breaches have affected consumers’ attitudes and behaviors.
Key findings include:
- Consumers remain concerned about the privacy of their healthcare data.
- Recent privacy breaches have made consumers even more concerned.
- Employee concern about the misuse of medical claim information has risen dramatically.
- Consumers are unaware of HIPAA protections or their privacy rights.
- Privacy-protective behaviors persist.
- Consumers are willing to share their personal medical information in return for specific benefits.
The results come from a survey of 1,000 consumers nationwide and another 1,000 in California by CHCF in collaboration with Forrester Research, Cambridge, Mass. For more results and recommendations for stakeholders, visit www.chcf.org/topics/view.cfm?itemid=115694.
