Former PHAMIS CEO Frank T. Sample joined Tustin, Calif.-based VitalCom Inc. as President and CEO. The appointment came as Sample announced his resignation from IDX Systems Corp., Burlington, Vt., where he was executive vice president. PHAMIS merged with IDX in July. Sample cited his desire to handle different challenges as his reason for leaving IDX. He will remain on IDX’s board of directors.

Future HealthCare, Inc., a Chapel Hill, N.C. clinical informatics consulting firm, added three new members to its staff. Wade Yarbrough, former project executive with Cerner Corp., was appointed senior vice president for consulting services. Yarbrough also served at Andersen Consulting and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Nancy Wicklin joined the company as senior clinical informatics consultant. Wicklin comes from the University of Minnesota where she was National Library of Medicine Fellow in Health Informatics. Pamela Smith was named senior consultant. Most recently Smith was a regional director for the Franciscan Health System West in Tacoma, Wash.

Minneapolis’ Summit Medical Systems has appointed a new president and CEO. Barbara A. Cannon fills the position originally held by Kevin R. Green who resigned in July. Executive vice president and CFO Richard Willemin was the interim CEO following a short stint by board chairman, John M. Nehra. Previously, Cannon was executive vice president of ClinTrials Research, Nashville, Tenn. She has also held executive positions with the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology in Dublin, Ireland and the former Hospital Corporation of America.

Thirty-year IBM veteran Jeffrey S. Blair retired from Big Blue and joined the Medical Records Institute as vice president where he will be responsible for research and consulting initiatives. Most recently, Blair was program manager of clinical management systems with IBM’s Healthcare Solutions business. He continues his service as a member of the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics, the Department of Health and Human Services advisory board, and as co-chair of ANSI’s Healthcare Informatics Standards Board.
