HCI'S ONLINE EXECUTIVE INTERVIEWS SERIES
With 4,000 team members, not-for-profit AtlantiCare delivers healthcare to more than 60 locations throughout southeastern New Jersey. The organization includes AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, a 567-bed teaching hospital with campuses in Atlantic City and Pomona, along with an IT business called InfoShare. Morreale, who also serves as CEO of InfoShare, spoke with HCI Editor-in-Chief Anthony Guerra about how he is working to make his IT division an integrated part of the AtlantiCare team.
One-on-One with Penn Medicine Vice President and CIO Michael RestucciaPenn Medicine is a Philadelphia-based $3.5 billion enterprise consisting of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania Health System, which includes three hospitals — the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Hospital, and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Recently, HCI Associate Editor Kate Huvane had a chance to chat with vice president and CIO Michael Restuccia, who was named to his dual role at Penn Medicine in March 2008 after serving as interim CIO for a year.
Most agree that behind every successful CIO stands a supportive CEO, one who sees IT not as a cost center, but a strategic enabler. James Mongan, M.D., president and CEO of Partners HealthCare (founded in 1994 by Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital) seems to personify this concept. Mongan was recently one of the individuals presented with a “CEO IT Achievement Award” by Modern Healthcare and HIMSS. Recently, he discussed his approach to information technology with HCI Editor-in-Chief Anthony Guerra.
One-on-One with Inova Health System CIO Geoff BrownInova Health System is a not-for-profit healthcare system based in Northern Virginia that consists of hospitals, emergency and urgent care centers, home care, nursing homes, mental health, blood donor services, and wellness classes. With such a plethora of offerings, it's no wonder Senior Vice President and CIO Geoff Brown wanted to tie some of the pieces together. In fact, Brown recently contracted with GE to offer the vendor's ambulatory EMR to local physician practices. Brown, who says Inova will take advantage of Stark relaxations to underwrite the costs, recently talked with HCI Editor-in-Chief Anthony Guerra about his plans for the future.
